KAY WALKINGSTICK / HUDSON RIVER SCHOOL
This catalogue accompanied the first major exhibition of renowned contemporary Cherokee artist Kay WalkingStick’s landscapes in New York State. Her work was displayed alongside Hudson River School paintings, creating a visual dialogue that highlighted “the ways in which WalkingStick’s work both connects to and diverges from the Hudson River School tradition and explores the agency of art in shaping humankind’s relationship to the land.”
The catalogue features original essays by Louise Mirrer, President and CEO of The New York Historical, and Wendy Nālani E. Ikemoto, PhD, Vice President and Chief Curator, as well as an interview with Kay WalkingStick. The publication presents all works from the exhibition, accompanied by Native American craft objects WalkingStick referenced in her practice.
